october favorites

Hello! Today I am back with a favorites post. So yeah let's get ahead. The time is high.

1. Monki scarf (sold out): I got this scarf in the beginning of October and I've worn it on almost every cold day this month. The weather has been so weird here, one day it's all Indian summer and before you know it, it's raining and storming (the wind actually blew me from my bike this week). But I absolutely love it on that scarf on rainy days, big and warm and just look at that print!

2. "Vele hemels boven de zevende" by Griet Op De Beeck: I am so late with this book! I've been wanting to read this book forever but in some weird way our copy got lost but then I had to read it for school so I finally did! And it is good. Like crying out loud good. It's in Dutch but you would gladly learn the language for this book believe me.

3. Olympus OM-10 film camera: This is actually Ophelia's camera but she is letting me have it for a while (she has another Canon). I am so excited to get my film developed it feels like getting my first disposable pictures done all over again. Also look at all the beautiful photo's Ophelia took with it on her flickr page

How pretty is this one right? Probably has more to do with Opi's photo skills than the camera but oh well.

4. Vinyl: This half term I got really into vinyl again! I bought so many bargain records the last week (Françoise Hardy, Peace, Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Heart, The Smiths, The Animals, The Byrds, The Smiths all for the total of 30 euros). And I've been listening especially a lot to the records on the picture. I wrote about Peace before here and if you think that you know Françoise Hardy from somewhere, you are totally right (if you are a crazy big Wes Anderson fan as well yay!). It's the record that Sam and Suzy dance to in Moonrise Kingdom!

5. Thrifted backpack: I actually bought this on the 31st but I am still including it (technically still October right). Look how cute this is! Only 4 euros and backpacks are so practical, seriously how could I not buy this

6. & Other Stories fig fiction body spray: This thing actually smells so good! I can't even express how good this is. I've been wearing this about every day (the people around me can confirm). Ugh & Other Stories beauty collection is going to be my end one day.

7. American Apparel Matte + &Other Stories green nailpolish: I absolutely love matte nails and moss green is my go to autumn colour (ah just listen to this rant on autumn colours and nailpolish.. almost like a real blogger wow) so that's why these two are included in here.

8. Dreame drawing: Yes there is another favorite! Dreame is a website which allows you to turn your dream into art. With more than 30 artists you are guaranteed to get a piece of artwork which completely suits your dream. The lovely Dreame team let me try out their website as well. Cheng Chen drew me and I am absolutely in love with it. You should totally check out the website and I mean this would be a pretty rad Christmas gift right?

9. My sisters outfits: This is probably a really nifty favorite but Flo has been wearing some really cool things and Oasap send me some really nice stuff again but sadly it doesn't fit me that well so she gladly took them over from me. So I thought I would post two of Flo's outfits (where she is wearing the Oasap clothes) here! Such a supportive sister wow.

Raincoat - Petit Bateau, crop top - c/o Oasap (mine), mom jeans - Topshop, Shoes - Dr Martens

Jeans jacket - vintage (yes that's the one that I used to wear all the time!), shirt - c/o Oasap, black jeans - Dr Denim, shoes - Dr Martens.

That's it for today!

cacti baby // outfit

Hello! A post with less than two months in between, now that's pretty impressive.
Today I have an outfit for you guys. It's been a while so I decided to get together with Joppe in the last week of August to take some photo's. My outfit is surprisingly simple for me but oh well.

photo's & editing by Joppe
c/o Oasap Paisley shirt // Vintage earrings // American Apparel sweater
Brandy Melville crystal necklace // Monki high waisted trousers // Vintage belt
c/o Oasap eye ring // second hand Adidas sneakers // Titi + The German Kid tote bag

I am so in love with this shirt from Oasap, I've been the number one fan of paisley for a really long time and although it is a little bit too bohemian for my style I think this will be a piece that I can get a lot of wear out. Also trousers huh??? I bought the Monki pair in Stockholm and I actually bought it 3 sizes too big so it doesn't fit me that well but I am still happy I got them. So yes pants are back in my dictionary woohoo! Also this tote bag! Best thing ever maybe? Biggie, Bob, David & Mick on one bag yes please! I've been wearing this tote non stop (using it as a school bag right now) and I can't get enough of it. Ah Titi you little genius (tempted to get this sweater from her new collection. Do tell me what you think of it in the comments below)

On a completely different note: I got tickets for Alt-J's concert in Belgium in February and I am so excited!

Summer '14

Hello! So here I am once more.. three  months later. Do you remember the times when I  used to blog every other day? No, me neither. Oh well this only means that my "more-time-for-blogging-this-summer-plan" didn't work out well. But I had an amazing summer anyway. And today I feel like giving you a little update of all things done for the past months!

#1 I went to Rock Werchter and finally got to see the Arctic Monkeys live!!

After wanting to go, waiting to buy tickets, waiting until the tickets were sold out, regretting not having bought tickets, wishing she was there EVERY year... Ibe finally made it to Rock Werchter! Admittedly for only one day but hey it's a start, isn't it?
I opted for Friday mainly because of the Arctic Monkeys (yeah I know don't make me apologize for the big fan girl factor). And the fact that the 1975 was playing the same day was a nice extra. I ended up seeing The 1975, Trixie Whitley, Parov Stellar (who where so good live wow), bits of Crystal Fighters and The Strypes, Arctic Monkeys (!!!) and Major Lazer (which was crazy). One of those really great days.

#2 I vacationed in Stockholm

I went to Stockholm with my family for a week or so and  what an incredibly beautiful city this is. I absolutely loved everything about it. It is completely surrounded by water (which is crystal clean and fit for swimming almost everywhere)  The old buildings are so lovely and the people are so nice! I definitely want to go back soon.

#3 I got really into Peace

I think I first heard about Peace when someone sent  me a message on Tumblr to check them out and I listened to one song, liked it and then forgot about them. But then after three months I saw someone posting a link to the Bloodshake video and I fell in love. I swear Bloodshake has been my jam this summer. And Money and Get Lost On Me and Flirtin USA and Follow Baby and basically every song they have ever made. Keeping my fingers crossed for a gig in Belgium!

#4 I spent some time with Marie in upstate Maine

So yeah I went to this little town in Maine with Marie to visit her family and I stayed there for 16 days I think. To be honest it was a very mixed experience for me mainly because I was really homesick which was something new for me. I guess it was just being on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean in a very peaceful and beautiful place but with not that much to do, out of sync with my other friends and my family. Honestly, that was kind of hard on me.  We shared some great  moments on the lake and in the woods though and the reunion with my friends and family was the best!

#5  I celebrated the Summer

Printscreen of my Instagram end of June/July/Augustus. It's been so good! There were some great parties and beautiful evenings and good talks and a lot of laughter and I am going to stop here because this is getting way too cheesy for me. But anyway I do hope you had a great summer as well!

MAY FAVORITES

Hello! Sorry for not posting in a while (again), exams are coming up and as always I am freaking out and trying to get my shit together. And to be honest I don 't think I will be posting here a lot in the coming month. But I hope I will find more time to contribute something this summer. I am very much looking forward too. But back to the subject! This post is about my May favorites:

1. c/o Palladium Pampa shoes: These babies actually arrived last Friday but I have been wearing them non stop since then and I am so so so in love with them. The very kind people of Oona PR sent them to me and they are so comfortable and I love how they make an outfit look less prim & proper and more like I actually don't care // I woke up like this (Beyoncé references 24/7). Also I would recommend checking out their explorer series!

2. The Wes Anderson Collection by Matt Zoller Seitz: This book is simply amazing! So many pretty full page photos, set designs, early scripts, special graphics and of course the interviews. If you are a fan of Wes Anderson's movies this is a no-miss.

3. Travels With Charley by John Steinbeck: I am in the middle of this book right now but I am loving every single page. It makes me want to pack my bags and just leave and travel across America. So much wanderlust.

4. It by Alexa Chung: I actually finished this in September right after it came out but I still wanted to include it because the cover matched so well I haven't talked about it here before! Obviously it is very good and inspiring because duh it's Alexa Chung's. Also I am in love with the design, drawings & photos in the book!

5. Lipstick: I actually have no idea which brand this is let alone the name of the color. But my grandmother gave it and it is actually the lipstick I had been looking for! It is this reddish color but it isn't too bright so I can wear it as an every day lipstick.

6. New Faces Mix by Maison Kitsuné: I am the kind of person who is always in search for some new music because I always listen to the same song 10000x times until I absolutely can't stand that song anymore. So I was very delighted when I came across this mix by Maison Kitsuné! Fresh new talent never brings me down to make me happy. Also how cool does the cover look?

4 years

Wow. As you've probably guessed from the title: what you are reading right now just turned 4 years today! And I turned 15 a week and one day ago. This is weird. I don't even know what to say right now. Four years, if this was a real child it would already talk fluently and throw birthday parties with cake and confetti. (Disclaimer: the cliché part is coming) And I just want to say that although I often act as if this blog is just an embarrassment composed of self-absorbed writing spaced by intervals of utter neglect, I do care, I really really really do. I care about the comments and sweet emails, I do care about all the amazing events I was invited to attend because of this blog, I do care about the wonderful people I met through this blog and who actually became dear friends (this goes out to you: Alice, Jonas and of course Ophelia) and most of all I do care about you; you guys who take the time to read this (or just look at the pictures, I won't judge) and be so great and smart and very cool. Thank you for the four beautiful years and let's hope there may come even more.

botanical garden

Hello! Today, I had a very nice day at the botanical garden in Antwerp today with Alice. We spent the afternoon talking, sketching plants, looking at the cacti, eating coconut and blueberries and taking photo's oh and I also picked up this really cute highwaisted jeans skirt at American Apparel! Perfect afternoon if you ask me. And I  took some outfit photo's there. My outfit wasn't that special today because uhm effort and also a two hour train ride so I am sorry. I've been wearing lots of black and white lately which is probably my stubborn character ignoring the fact that it is spring and that everyone is wearing pastels right now.
(I wish I knew what my hand was doing in this photo)
Wearing a black fisherman sweater from American Apparel (stolen from my sister), a striped black and white Topshop croptop (underneath the sweater), Urban Renewal jeans dungarees AGAIN, Babar patch is dead-stock from an old sewing shop, random tights (spot the run, such a professional fashion blogger), Fjallraven Kanken Classic, second hand Adidases.

I was so happy when I found this Babar patch! It was one of my favorite cartoons when I was younger and I remember watching it at my grandmum's on early sunday mornings. Also am I Ezra Koenig yet?
The amazing Alice (click that link) took these photo's and you should go check out her blog

That's all for now.
But there are some exciting things coming up soon!

morning light & pretty jewelry

Hello! So I am back with a new post after a week of skiing and a week of being ill (that's what you get when you breathe in a hotel). I had so much fun in Italy skiing and eating amazing food and catching up on sleep and tanning (yes I know I don't tan but I enjoy the idea of tanning). But Belgium isn't so bad at the moment either! Spring is finally coming and it is quite sunny. Not that I could enjoy the weather because uhm I was being under it - the weather that is. When I finally felt better today I started taking some photos of the jewelry that the really sweet people of Vintage Store sent me. And the lightning in my room was really pretty this morning so yay!
VintageStore's business card (loving the fonts). And in the background you might see my beloved Catcher in the Rye poster which is one of the favorite things in my room.
All the items I picked: an 80's ring with a beautiful green stone: I've wanted a pretty stone ring for a long time and I like the fact that it is a light greenish shade because I think it would look cool with an all black outfit and then just a little bit of colour. Next item: a vintage moon broche: In my humble opinion the moon surely is one of the most fascinating objects ever. Space in general and  the moon in special. I don't really know why. But what I do know is the NASA moon photos up on my walls have an eerie attraction, that my tumblr is full of moon pictures (and I even have a moon cursor) and that the crescent emoji is my most frequent used emoji. So long story short: I most definitely had to pick this broche. And I absolutely love it! Moving on to the last item: a pair of vintage gold earrings. I have been looking for hoops like this for a while now and I love them but the really tiny delicate ones are still on my wishlist so if anyone knows a place where I can buy them cheap let me know!
I don't think I've already told you guys that I now have three ear piercings in my left ear. So this is my ear situation right now. Gold hoop that Vintagestore sent me, silver moon earring (see more moon obsessing) is from a really really really weird shop that kind of sells everything and is owned by an even weirder man and the red fake ruby one is the earring that I got my ear pierced with and I kind of like it so I am leaving it in. Oh and the sweater is something I found in a little souvenir shop in the village where we went skiing! It must have been gathering dust there for ages and they gave me a huge reduction on it because it fluffs a little bit. But it is super cozy and a classic navy sweater has been on my wishlist for a long time!
Close up of the ring. Look how pretty aaaaah I feel like together with this ring (the one on the left and is it just me or have my hands grown a lot in one year??) it could become my signature ring, because I like wearing at least one ring every day.
My babies modeling my new jewelry.
On a different note: I finally got my hands on a pair of classic Adidases. Found them in a secondhand shop for 15 euros! I love how they are already worn in (don't worry I washed them before wearing them) because new sneakers feel so awkward and make me pretty uncomfortable.

Oh and before I forget, I wrote a new article for Teenkicks (in Dutch, sorry) about the best Belgian bands You can read it here if you want to.

don't bother

Hello!
This is just a quick update because I realized that I have been neglecting the existence of this blog for a month again. I am trying to be a better blogger by trying to change the lay out of this thing a bit and I have been looking for good lenses for my Nikon as well because my digital photos are literally crap so if anyone has any recommendations, hit me up! But now you'll have to do with this polaroid that Frances took of me and one of my favorite songs at the moment. We will see how this whole thing turns out right.

winter faves

Hi! So this post is a compilation off all the things I have been wearing  lately. I find dressing for winter weather pretty difficult because I always feel like just throwing on a pair of highwaisted jeans shorts and a random striped shirt and then I go out and  realise that it is 5 degrees °C outside. But I am actually also fond of wearing sweaters and long sleeved blouses in the summer so it is probably just my inner self that is just not in sync with season changes.

(sorry for the weird photo quality there is something wrong with my camera. I am still figuring out what the problem is)
- Green (it looks aquamarine on this photo ew I hate digital photography) vintage turtle neck sweater that I      got for one euro last Wednesday at a vintage store.
- Dark blue vintage bird sweater. I have been living in this sweater (I am actually wearing it as I write this) and  it is comfy and perfect as well as oversized.
- Black and white striped crop top from American Apparel (nicked from my sister). I used to wear this top under my  dungarees all the time and now I just wear it under my sweaters because it is so soft and such a great basic.   I also own the red/white oversized version of this top and I love them both so much.

A small gold necklace has been on my wishlist for a while so
I was really happy when I found this heart shaped one!
- Red Adidas sneakers via Zalando: I bought these for working out because I didn't have any proper sport shoes but now I just wear them all the time because I think they look so cool underneath a skirt with collared shirt. So now they are my everyday kicks (and also my sport shoes but sssht don't tell my PE).
- Black and white Zara Loafers: My vintage loafers were literally falling apart so I needed to buy these.
- Black Chelsea Boots c/o Fred De La Bretoniere: The people behind FDLB were nice enough to let me pick out a pair of shoes in September and I chose these beauties. They are a bit worn out right now which is a good thing because in my opinion brand new clean shoes are the most awkward thing ever.
I finally bought a Kanken! You'll probably see this baby a lot here in the future because I think it is absolutely perfect and I love it with all my heart.

favorites of 2013

Hello! First of all happy New Year! I hope everyone of you had an amazing New Year's eve because I definitely had. This post may be a little different (which is probably a good thing because it needs admitting that some of my post are chaotic and weird rants ...sorry) but I really wanted to write about something else. So here are my favorites from 2013 (yeah I use this as an opportunity to fangirl):

MUSIC:
From left to right:
1. Long.Live.A$AP by A$AP Rocky: although I listen to indie music most of the time, I really do appreciate a good hiphop album and this one is really, really good.
2. AM by Arctic Monkeys: ah yes if I had to pick one ultimate favorite from this list I would definitely choose this one. You have probably seen me fangirling here and maybe here (yes I have a separate Arctic Monkeys tumblr ok don't judge me). But I swear this record is my life. I actually had a countdown app on my phone to the day that it would be released. I just knew that it would live up to my expectations after hearing Do I Wanna Know and Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High. Well I could go on for five pages about what this album means to me but I wont be bothering you guys with that. But one last thing: I am seeing them in July at Rock Werchter with Marie!!!!!!!!!! (I can't use enough exclamation marks).
3. Modern Vampires Of The City by Vampire Weekend: This album just makes me so happy and it was a perfect soundtrack for this summer.
4. Where The Heaven Are We by Swim Deep. Don't really have to say anything specific about this album: it is just really catchy and cool.
5. Night Time, My Time by Sky Ferreira: Sky is a Queen and this record just screams 'whatever to cool for you guys'. Couldn't agree more with her.
6. Beyoncé by Beyoncé: uhm DUH.
7. 6 Feet Beneath The Moon by King Krule: I talked about King Krule in my last post  but I can't express enough how amazing he is.
8. Rumours (35th anniversary special edition) by Fleetwood Mac: I got this special edition box set for my birthday and it is one of my favorite vinyls. SO GOOD. 9. Reflektor by Arcade Fire. I love Arcade Fire but this is actually my least favorite album of the band. It is still awesome & but I was kind of disappointed the first time I listened to it. But oh well that is probably because nothing could top The Suburbs.

MOVIES:
1. Ginger& Rosa by Sally Potter: I saw this film in really late December so it is a last minute entry in my personal charts. First of all: Elle Fanning acts so well it is insane and she just rules. I kind of just want to be best friends with her. Also the vibes in this movie wowowowow. After watching this I plan on wearing men shirts and turtlenecks for the rest of 2014 (ok not really but I wish I was disciplined enough). But go watch it! It is free on the internet somwhere I guess (#beingillegal #yolo #nomoneytobuymovies).
2. The Great Gatsby by Baz Luhrman: Gah where to start! The soundtrack, the clothes, the decor, the parties, the storyline. It is everything I hoped for when I saw the trailer.
3. The Bling Ring by Sofia Coppola: This doesn't even need explaining. Go watch if you haven't seen it yet!

BOOKS:
I actually haven't read any books that came out this year but I read loads of older books in 2013 so I am just going to pretend that the following books are fresh-cuts. (so badass).
1. Franny & Zooey by J.D. Salinger: Although it took me a while to read this one, it is one of the most endearing books I have read so far! I just could relate a lot too Franny ( don't worry I don't have a mental breakdown) and the ending is so powerful! Like wow.
2. The Outsiders by S.E Hinton: I wrote about this book before here and I even included it in my halloween costumes idea article for The Pulp Zine so it obviously had to be included.
3. Weetzie Bat by Francesca Lia Block: This is obviously no high brow literature but I really enjoyed reading it last spring and it left just so many good vibes. I read the whole serie but I enjoyed Weetzie Bat the most.
4. Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi: I am not sure whether I read it for the first time in 2013 (I think I read it for the first time two years ago) but I picked it up again in 2013 and it deserves its place. Marjane gives a really good perspective about Iran and it is really intresting. I also really like the way this is drawn.
5. An Extraordinary Theory Of Object by Stephanie Lacava: Again the drawings are amazing and it is a beautiful written coming of age story, for understandable reasons totally my genre
6. Building Stories by Chris Ware: Chris Ware, ah do I need say more????
